Save Komarnica movement is a grassroots initiative dedicated to protecting the pristine Komarnica Canyon from the construction of a proposed large hydropower plant. It brings together diverse voices—scientists, environmentalists, locals, and outdoor enthusiasts—united by a shared goal: to preserve the canyon's unique ecosystems, cultural heritage, and breathtaking natural beauty for future generations. 

In June 2025, after years of public pressure and legal scrutiny, the national energy company EPCG withdrew its request to continue the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process for the Komarnica HPP. However, this was a tactical retreat—not a cancellation. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) failed to reject the EIA study outright, avoiding a legal resolution that would have permanently halted the project. This deliberate inaction has left the door open for future attempts, especially amid ongoing efforts to weaken environmental legislation.
